THE PERFECT SUSTAINABLE BASICS BY BOODY

April 20, 2020 in FASHION, SUSTAINABLE FASHION

If you have read previous posts about fashion, you’ll kind of know already what I like to focus on. Sustainability is key and it is something that yes, it took me a while to adjust, but now its also easier than ever. Let me introduce you to Boody an its sustainable basics.

One thing I always hear when I talk about sustainable fashion is that it is not affordable. I get that, there are a lot of brands making beautiful clothes but are a little pricey. That is why I get so excited when I find brands that I know you’ll love and are attainable.

I discovered this brand last year, called Boody that makes absolutely the most perfect sustainable basics ever. They tick all my boxes: style, sustainability, comfort, quality variety, and guess what? price. I personally think that even though you can have great statement pieces, everyday basics are a must in every closet. You wear them EVERY day after all. So the fact that Boody meets all of what I’m looking for of my garments, it is an absolute win-win. And you know I love those win-win situations.

the certifications

Boody is an Australian company based in Sidney that makes beautiful sustainable basics for women, men and babies from bamboo viscose fabric, which makes the softest and coziest, breathable pieces of clothing.

Boody uses bamboo that’s sourced from China and grown in accordance with the international organic standard of OCIA/IFOAM and the USDA National Organic Program, ensuring that each bamboo stalk is 100% natural and free of any chemical pesticides. The bamboo fiber is also Oeko-Tex 100 certified, which means it has been tested for any chemicals and contain no trace of chemicals that pose any health threat. It is also certified as organically grown by Ecocert, ensuring that the agricultural practices to grow bamboo respect the environment, and the forests where the bamboo is from are FSC certified, ensuring the crops are not contributing to natural habitat loss or destruction. Also, all Boody products are PETA Vegan Approved. Need more proof of what a great brand Boody is?

why bamboo?

  • Bamboo is the fastest growing woody plant and can grow in diverse climates.
  • Bamboo can be continually re-harvested with no damage to its surroundings, and doesn’t need a lot of space to grow. Which means it doesn’t take a lot of land to grow bamboo, and can yield up to 150 tons per acre (compared to 25 tons for most trees and 3-5 tons for cotton)
  • Bamboo’s extreme growth minimizes CO2 and generates up to 35% more oxygen than equivalent trees.
  • Unlike cotton, bamboo grows back again after being cut down, there is no need of the plantation to be terminated and chopped down.
  • Bamboo is able to handle harsh weather conditions such as drought, high temps and flooding, since it requires no irrigation.
  • Bamboo helps preserve the soil and avoid erosion, thanks to its extensive root system and the fact that it is not uprooted during harvesting.
  • A major benefit of bamboo is that there is absolutely no need for pesticides or fertilizers, plus it contains bamboo-kun, an antimicrobial agent that helps the plant against pests and fungi.

This makes the bamboo plant a sustainable and versatile resource. Do you need any more?

Aside from Boody using this super sustainable fiber to make their basics, they also are committed to have a minimum footprint on the planet and have a positive impact on its people.

what i got

I received the Cami Bodysuit in black and the Scoop Top in white (both XS) . The quality on both is unreal.

First of all, I had been looking for a bodysuit since last spring. I love how simple but chic it looked when combined with a nice pair of high rise jeans or skirts. As I was about to purchase one from another store, I discovered Boody. At first I was afraid it might be see through and it was going to be more for layering. But the black is so black and the fabric is not see-through, so I sometimes wear it even without a bra. The style is also just what I was looking for, making it the perfect bodysuit.

I had been in dire need of a white top that I could wear during the colder months and this scoop neck tee was perfect! Plus, I thought it would be perfect for those occasions where I would need to layer a bit more clothes on, since I wouldn’t feel so suffocated in a top with a thicker fabric (I hate feeling trapped in my clothes, specifically during winter). The top fits me nice and snug and it is just what I as looking for. For this one I actually have to wear a bra of some sort, which is what I like to do anyways, so I wear a nude bra underneath and I am ready to go.

I am so in love with everything about Boody that I now will start purchasing my basics from them as I need them. I have already recommended them to my friends and family. You can use code livingananda to save on all your Boody purchases here.

When I got in contact with

Aside from the two new items that the Boody team sent me (lovely girls btw!) Everything else I use for this capsule I had in my closet:

  • Black High Rise pants, H&M from 2 years ago
  • Plaid Skirt, Who What Wear/Target from 3 years ago (I fixed this one because it was too big on me)
  • Black Bodycon Pencil Skirt, H&M from 5-6 years ago
  • Denim Culottes, Michael Kors from 4 years ago
  • Plaid Blazer, got it in DTLA Fashion District at least 10 years old
  • Denim Jacket, from a boutique in Netherlands from 15 years ago
  • Velvet High Heels, Public Desire from 4 years ago
  • White Sneakers, Pimkie from 4 years ago

The point of me sharing this info is to show you that you don’t need to buy buy buy and keep up with trends, you can have a few pieces that are of good quality that you know you will keep using for a long time. Remember to ask yourself, do I really need this? You can read 8 Tips to Change your Shopping Habits here for more info on how you can start.
