I want to share with you a few products that can help you transition towards a more sustainable lifestyle. I’ve said it before but I like to share affordable options, I want to keep it realistic and doable. That way there’s less excuses to make the switch. Luckily, Natural Home Brands has a lot of great products that can help you achieve your green goals. So for all of you who want to start a sustainable lifestyle, this is your lucky day! Here, I am sharing some of Natural Home Brands products and explain why they are a better alternative. After reading this post, you might feel ready and excited to start making your first purchases towards that #greenlifestyle.
BUT FIRST…A LITTLE BIT ABOUT NHB
Natural Home Brands creates products that would help the consumer make their home a natural home. The materials used in all of their products have been carefully thought over. All of their line is sustainable and free of plastic, petroleum and 100% BPA free.
They carry everything from kitchen tools and utensils to cleaning cloths, candles, compost bins, among other things. I’ve been using them for some time now and the quality is excellent on every single product.
BAMBOO
Products made from bamboo are more sustainable than any other type of wood for many reasons. To name a few: It takes about 3.5-6 years to fully grow, needs very little water and grows about 3 ft per day. It is also less porous, and won’t break as easily or absorb any odors, making it great for the kitchen. It also won’t scratch non-stick surfaces.
Natural Home Brands carry all kinds of products made from bamboo: spoons, ladles, veggie brushes, coasters, bowls and trivets.
I use my bamboo utensils every single day for cooking. They don’t get hot as easy and you are not melting toxic chemicals to your food while you cook it. The veggie brush is so useful! Scrubbing my veggies with this baby is very easy and I can make sure I got through all the crevices.
MOBOO
Looks and feels like melamine but it is actually Molded Bamboo®. Also, it is just as durable. It is produced with rice starch and bamboo fibers, making it completely biodegradable and toxin free. Even though it is not microwave or oven safe, this material will not release any chemicals if exposed to heat or acids. So you can see why this material is great to cook with.
NHB carries several items made of Molded Bamboo® or Moboo. From bowls, measuring cups and spoons, multiple kitchen utensils, pet bowls, and dinnerware sets. You can see why just as with bamboo, Mooboo is perfect material for cooking.
STAINLESS STEEL
Stainless steel utensils are great to use in the kitchen since forever. It is very easy to clean, has excellent durability and doesn’t release any toxics into the food. They also don’t transfer heat as easy so they are great to use when cooking soups and other hot dishes.
NHB carry a lot of stainless steel utensils, most if not all made with recycled stainless steel. They come with either bamboo or Mooboo handles for a comfy grip.
COMPOSTING
Aside from having all the amazing kitchen utensils and tools, NHB also carries a wide range of items for composting. I have to admit that I’m new to composting, and I still haven’t gotten the hang of it completely. I’m still doing my research but it is something I’m not letting go. They carry compost bins that are the perfect size to keep in your kitchen. This gives you easy access when chopping fruits and veggies, dropping your used coffee grinds, etc. It is large enough that it will fit several days waste, but it doesn’t take much space. And contrary to what most people believe, it doesn’t stink up your kitchen. It comes with a carbon filter that canalizes all odors and you can’t even tell there’s stuff rotting in there.
And of course they carry the compostable bags for it that are also compostable. And add that to the list of compostable bags they carrie: doggie duty and lawn and leaf waste as well. Basically you have no excuse to not compost, they are literally giving you all of the tools.
MESH FRUIT AND VEGGIE BAGS
These bags are my absolute favorite item from NHB! I use them for every single trip to the grocery store. I keep with my reusable bags stash so I ensure I never forget them at home. They are light weight, and cashiers have no problem looking what’s inside each of them. The sizes are perfect and fit a good amount of goodies. They come in a set of 5 so its a great way to start, and you can add more sets later. And when they get dirty is just so easy to throw them in the washing machine (with your non toxic laundry detergent of course).
If you’re looking to buy one thing out of this list, I would recommend you get this set. It has been so useful and the amount of plastic bags I have stopped using has been impressive.
REUSABLE CLEANING CLOTHS
These are actually made from viscose from trees grown in sustainable forests. They’re intended for scrubbing dishes but I love to use them to scrub countertops, sink, stove, etc. They are the best to get the greasy oily messes I make out of the way easily. Once you wring them out and leave them to dry and they won’t get stinky. You can also wash them if needed, which means they can be used over and over again, saving some $$$.
Aside from these, they carry all kinds of reusable cloths that can be washed and reused as well. I find this very convenient and much better than using paper towels that you throw after one use.
ORGANIC COTTON OVEN MITT
Made from organic cotton, this oven mitt is non toxic and super cute. It is also pretty thick and great quality. I never considered the oven mitts to be a problem but keeping toxic chemicals away is key specially in the kitchen
SOY WAX CANDLES
I am the biggest fan of candles but since I found out most fragrances and wax are so bad for you, I stopped using them. NHB gave me hope with their soy wax candles. They are the way to go. Using natural fragances, these candles are safe for you and last longer since soy wax has a lower melting point. Plus they come in reusable tins and zero toxic crap.
LAST THOUGHTS…
I love that Natural Home Brands has kept the environment and sustainability in mind on every item that they carry. When I first started to look into green living, I was overwhelmed by all the things that I had to change. But discovering a brand NHB with such a variety of products, it gave me confidence.
