2019 Resolutions

January 17, 2019 in DISCOVER, LIFE

I know I am a little late to the new-year-new-you party but I’m going to do it anyways. Even though this post is being written almost mid January, I have already started working on some of the things I will be talking about here 🙂   I don’t know what else to say so let’s get started.

DO MORE YOGA.

Even though exercising constantly is not so much of a struggle for me, I feel I have left yoga to the side for a little while I was focusing on more of circuit training. I’m not saying that’s bad, but I really enjoy the flexibility I get from doing yoga and how calm my mind feels when I’m done.

LEARN HOW TO MAKE REALLY GOOD MATCHA LATTES.

I just recently tried my first Matcha latte with oat milk at Teabar in Portland, and it was love at first taste. It felt like a warm hug when you are all wrapped up in a blanket. So now, I’m really eager to get into the Matcha latte train and figure out how to make a delicious version at home.

DRINK MORE WATER.

An obvious one that is constantly on my mind, but I sure have slacked hard. Maybe it is because I go to the bathroom 47 times in a day, but oh well. It makes me feel really good and my skin likes it when its hydrated. Who knew.

FOCUS MORE ON DITCHING PLASTIC.

This will definitely be a hard one. I already bring my reusable bags when I’m grocery shopping and I carry one in my purse at all times (shout out to Dairen for this super useful gift), but I need to start carrying my straw and my cup as well. I also really enjoy Trader Joe’s assortment of delicious food, but basically everything is covered in plastic so… we’ll see how it goes. I don’t think I will be able to go zero waste but I will really focus on lowering the amount of waste we make.

TALK MORE OFTEN TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

I am constantly running around (doing what I have no idea) that often times I forget to give my family a call just to check on their day. It hit me hard when we had to come back to Oregon and leave them behind, but I want to keep up with their daily lives as much as I can. Also, ever since I moved almost 3 years ago, I have lost contact with most of my friends and that is not ok. I am very selective of the friendships that I pick and I should not waste their friendship. So if you are reading this girls (you know who you are) expect a message or call soon to set up a facetime-mask-and-talk-date 🙂 You too mum 🙂

ORGANIZE THE HOUSE.

Even though it is not total chaos over here, there are some cupboards and closets that really need a good organizing. I haven’t watched Marie Kondo’s Netflix series, I’m leaving that for when I feel a little more caught up with the blog/projects, but I’m sure, as it has happened with everyone I know, that it will give me the strength to tackle this task.

EXPLORE THE OUTDOORS.

We try to be outdoorsy when the weather here in the Pacific Northwest allows us, but I don’t think we focus a lot on it. I would like to go on more hikes, go floating on the river, ski, go to the beach, etc. We are lucky to live in such a great place where we can do all of these, so I want to take advantage of all of that while we are here.

EAT HEALTHIER.

I feel like I am in a really good place right now in regards to what I eat and what I’m craving. I have found a balance where I don’t feel guilty for having my mandatory pizza on Friday (yes, a whole 11′ pizza) because I eat really clean and healthy the rest of the week. I have started craving salads and veggies, which I thought would be impossible for me, and I have stopped craving potato chips all the time. But I am ready to take it up a notch. I really want to find a good replacement for half and half milk that I use for my daily coffee. I’m not into soy or almond milk, but I really want to like oat milk with coffee. Lucky for me, they just started carrying Oatly! in my local Whole Foods. Fingers crossed.

START COMPOSTING FOR REAL.

Last year I received a really useful compost bin that I could keep in the kitchen for regular food scraps and the like, which I started using but later stopped because I had nowhere where I could put a bigger compost bin or where to use it since I don’t have a garden currently. My plan is to find someone that wants to take it for their garden here in the area, so if you know somebody interested, contact me so we can make this happen.

I have neglected books for so long now it is not even funny. and the worst part is that I truly enjoy reading. I’m one of those people that once they start a book won’t put it down, I remember when I was maybe 11 or 12, I would read Harry Potter under the covers until 2 am with a flashlight so that my mom wouldn’t notice that I was still awake. I just couldn’t stop. I’m doing this one together with L since he wants to start reading more as well so, we have decided to start reading before bed every other night, to ease into it, mainly because we are both so exhausted from going to the gym that we have grown used to putting on Netflix and watch mindlessly until we fall asleep. so wrong I know, baby steps.
