When I tell you what I did to help my post partum hair loss after having my baby you are going to be seriously impressed. No uber expensive supplements or serums, in fact, it cost me nothing.
I’ve always had a lot of hair, which makes it annoying most of the time. At first, loosing hair was a little bit of a relief, specially with the Arizona heat. But after realizing that it wasn’t stopping, I had to do something about it. I read and read about supplements, serums, reviews, ingredients, etc. But since I am trying to stick to a budget, it was hard to justify that I absolutely needed them.
So, my cheap butt has found a solution (here) and I’m happy to say that it has worked so well. I honestly wasn’t expecting it to work that well, and fast for that matter. And I just now realized that on my pregnancy blog post (read here) I never mentioned that I got a bald spot at the back of my head, I think it was the stress of the first trim and all the nausea. You have to see the bald spot.
Rosemary to the hair loss rescue
Ok no I’ll stop babbling and get to my not so secret, secret weapon. Rosemary. So I have read that rosemary was a great plant that could help battle hair loss. But since I’ve never had that problem before just never got to use it. But alas here we are, one baby and countless minutes collecting hair from the shower, bed and floor later. It only took me a few minutes on le web to find a recipe that was easy and quick to do. With such a demanding boss, I needed it to be.
So all you need is rosemary, filtered water and a spray bottle. Lucky for me I have water and a few empty spray bottles, so I just needed my key ingredient. But my luck strikes again, because my neighborhood green areas are full of it! So out I went, stroller and pup in hand, to pick out some rosemary.
You just need a few twigs so don’t worry about getting too much of it. Once you give them a quick wash just boil them in a small pot with about 1-1.5 cups of filtered water. Set it to simmer, once it starts boiling, turn the heat off and cover until it cools down. Once cool, use a strainer, and maybe a funnel, to pour the water in your spray bottles and you are set.
It will last a long time, no matter if you use it on your entire scalp every day. I got three, maybe four ounces of it in one batch and still have some left over. If its kept in the fridge it will last longer so I recommend that. I spray my entire scalp at least twice a day. Usually I just do it right there in front of the fridge and then put it back in.
The results
Usually with any natural remedies I add to my routine but I use it automatically without expecting any changes. I suggest to do the same. But with this one, after maybe 2 weeks, I realized that I had a TON of baby hair growing, particularly in the temples, where you could really tell I was loosing hair. I also noticed the hair loss wasn’t as bad, and I wasn’t collecting hair for hours on end after washing my hair.
I was so impressed with how quickly it worked. Even Luis wanted to give it a try, he has some spots that looked like the hair was thinning out. After using the spray only a few times you could hardly tell where the spots where.
And not only have I noticed the hair growth, but my hair also feels softer and looks shinier. That was a very nice extra that I was not expecting. And plus, it won’t leave your hair oily so you don’t need to worry about using it on clean hair.
I understand that everyone is different and it may not work as fast for every one. But it is such an easy, affordable and non disruptive thing to do that it might be worth a try. Just remember to have a little patience.
Next up, I’ll find a way to get my lashes and brows back to their past glory.
