Hair Dyeing at Home WITH HERBATINT

September 25, 2019 in BEAUTY, BODY

Guys, I can finally say that I found the perfect solution to dyeing your hair at home. Keep scrolling to read about my misadventures and how I was able to get back on the right track…and color for my hair.

At the beginning of 2019 I dyed my hair, but I didn’t make too much fuzz about it. I didn’t like the way it turned out. In my efforts to lighten it up, I became a redhead, full on redhead. This was not the look I was going for at all. And to top it off, it seemed like the baby hairs on the sides of my forehead went even lighter. I was freaking out. I had to borrow my friends blue shampoo to lessen the damage, but it wasn’t fixed.

This experience made me very afraid to dye it again. Although I had used a cleaner brand, my hair got pretty damaged. I was afraid that dyeing it again so soon was only going to contribute to my mess of a hair. So, I went with it. I lived with my horrible two tone hair, until it turned into a three tones, with my dark roots showing.

Not being an expert on hair dyeing at home, I was not familiar with a lot of brands. I for sure thought that Whole Foods would have the best options, which I have found is not the case. But once I read reviews, I was not going to take my chances. And so, in my research I discovered Herbatint.

THE LIGHT AT THE END OF A BRASSY TUNNEL

I contacted Herbatint and told them about my nightmare hair situation. Asked if they could help me get the right tone this time. I was so happy to hear that they agreed to collaborate with me so that I could share you guys how I fixed my hair. They sent me two boxes of hair dye and their application kit. And not only that, they where also super helpful in picking the color combination to get it right this time. I ended up with 7C and 7N to mix 3 parts 7C to 1 part 7N to get the perfect light brown color.

Each box comes with a developer and hair color gel that you mix together plus a Royal Cream sachet for the rinsing part. Once you mix the color gel and developer, it has a jelly like texture and doesn’t smell bad or overpowering.

Although the application kit is sold separately, I definitely recommend it because everything that’s included is reusable. It includes the measuring cup, brush and protection cape. I ended up not using the protection cape because I used an old shirt, but I should’ve, it’s more convenient. But the measuring cup and brush were very useful and practical. I will continue to use them in future hair dyeing adventures at home.

HOW TO USE HERBATINT HAIR DYE AT HOME

Before you start dyeing you apply a layer of the Royal Cream along the hairline. This is to avoid getting your skin stained which I have been a victim of in the past. Aside from that, the process is pretty similar as with other hair dyes I’ve used. I started with the roots all over and then proceeded with the rest of the hair all the way to the ends. Using the brush is definitely easier and mess free.

After applying it all over you let it sit for 40 minutes before rinsing it until the water runs clear. They recommend using the Herbatint Normalising Shampoo but it’s not the norm. I didn’t have that so I used my usual shampoo and had no problems. After rinsing the shampoo you towel dry your hair and apply the Royal Cream sachet. You leave it on for 5 minutes then rinse and you are done!

What I noticed immediately was that my hair felt so soft and not dry at all. It was as if I had applied a hair mask, that’s how soft it felt. Contrary I might say to what happened with the previous hair dye I used. After air drying I noticed that my hair had gotten to the exact tone I was looking for. A natural light brown tone that was shiny plus, my hair looked healthy and my ends were intact. I was very impressed with how smooth the process was and how my hair felt.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HERBATINT

Getting to know the brands behind the products is something I enjoy doing as much as testing the products themselves. Talking to Herbatint, I found out there is so much more about the brand than what you can tell from the box and IMHO, people need to know.

First of all, their intention to have the application kit sold separately is pretty smart. You can buy it once and keep for future uses, instead of including one in every box. That means less trash.

Secondly, they have a Master colorist available for free personalized consultations. If you are thinking of dyeing your hair at home but don’t know exactly what color to get, you have somebody to help you. I would’ve never thought of mixing two different colors to get the tone that I wanted. So if you are as confused as me I would definitely take advantage of this perk.

Herbatint is also the only B Corp certified hair color company. Their products are also cruelty free and vegan, and come in fully recyclable packaging.

KEEPING IT REAL…

Now, just to be real clear, permanent hair dye can’t be entirely free of chemicals. But Herbatint is committed to use the best ingredients and only use what is absolutely necessary. It contains aloe vera, meadow foam, white birch, cinchona calisaya, witch hazel, echinacea angustifolia, walnut and rhubarb. These ingredients protect, nourish, moisturize, strengthen and protect the hair and scalp as well as intensify and enhance color. It also contains no ammonia. It does contain a small amount of Phenylenediamines (PPD’s) which are synthetic color pigments used to alter your hair’s natural color.

All in all, I think that when you are looking for a new look, you don’t want to compromise your health, or spend $200 at the salon, Herbatint hair dye is the way to go. It is a great quality product, convenient that is easy and hassle free.

If you want to see the actual process I have a video on IGTV that you can check out if you are curious, and if you came from there, thanks for reading me out!
